Animal Care

Children at QUEST, also have the opportunity to carry out work with animals at a local community farm.

Working with animals and taking part in purposeful, physically demanding tasks in a farm environment can offer children with SEND a rich and motivating learning experience. Activities such as feeding and caring for animals, cleaning enclosures, gardening, moving materials and maintaining the site can support physical development, coordination and sensory regulation, while also building confidence, resilience, independence and a strong sense of responsibility. The clear routines and tangible outcomes of farm work can help children develop communication, teamwork, problem-solving and employability skills in a practical setting where their individual strengths are recognised. Alongside these personal and vocational benefits, learners can work towards formal qualifications in this area through our status as an NCFE exam centre, giving them the opportunity to gain recognised achievements and progress towards further education, training or employment.
