Our mainstream intervention is sharply focused on achieving one goal: a reduction in the number of children receiving fixed term exclusions.
The first stage to re-engage the young person with academic learning is to provide them with some stimulating alternative learning opportunities. These will be adapted according to the needs of the young people, but will have elements from one or more components of our vocational offer.
Once the young person is engaging with the session, they will be provided with a mentoring workbook. They will have the opportunity to discuss and record their aspirations and learn about all the factors that could stop them from fulfilling their potential and how to overcome them.
They will be taught about goal setting and how to build resilience through a range of psychology based theory and practical sessions. The course will allow them to receive extensive opportunities to develop their communication and leadership skills which in turn will help improve their confidence.
They will receive support on how to plot their journey through school to post 16 provision and then on to their chosen career path.
There are many young people that are not sure what they are aiming for in the future and so they will receive guidance on how to narrow down the search.
The young people will work in a small group to also help understand the process of taking emotional responsibility for their actions and therefore be more in control of their journey through the education system.
The program is designed to be run over one half term, but can be adapted according to the needs of the children.
